I figured that there was no need for me to keep playing as I was already paying attention to the icons on the other reels. I began to count the seconds before the jackpot would appear on the screen. After eleven seconds I noticed that the payoff amount was actually a red number that appeared on the screen. With this I quickly turned my back on the machine, stepped away from it, and began to think about my options. It didn't take long for the reels to stop running and the payout amounts begin accumulating on the monitor in front of me. My initial thought was that I might have made a mistake, but as I was counting the seconds, I saw that I was incorrect. I was astonished to see that the machine was still paying out, so I took a moment to calm myself down and wait for the machine to pay out. After I was able to get over the fact that I had just lost two reels on an earlier machine, I began to analyze what I had just seen. The chances of winning on these reels were pretty low, but the fact that I was able to double my winnings on an 'easy' machine convinced me that I could win. I continued to play, choosing reels that were paying out reasonably well but not extremely so. Eventually, I was able to win on the fourth reel and got an extra dollar bill. I continued to play and to study the screen, learning as I went along.
